A 50-BORE FLINTLOCK CANNON-BARRELLED POCKET-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1780, with multi-banded turn-off 2 3/8in. barrel, engraved squared boxlock action with rounded breech, the action sides signed 'I. PROBIN' on the left and 'JNO. STREET' on the right, London proofs, central hammer and frizzen, exposed trigger with bow safety, smooth bulbous walnut butt, moulded escutcheon to wrist engraved 'W.M.', and white-metal grotesque mask butt-cap

Other Notes: Of the many Probins operating in Birmingham in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, John Probin of John Street was appointed 'Gunmaker to H.R.H. The Prince of Wales', He died in 1800 and was succeeded by Probin, Cherry & Co.
